I recently read about a family who does a fun birthday tradition. The night before someone’s birthday, everyone walks the soon-to-be birthday person to their room for bedtime and sings/says goodbye to the version of that person that is x years old, knowing that, the next day, they will be a different version of themselves with a different age! I thought it was a cute idea. We do that a lot with New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. There is often a lot of reflection on what the ending year held for us and what we hope the new year will bring.
This would be a great place for a typical “set your goals” type of blog post that nearly every blogger is writing for this week. However, Tonya and I have been talking together about how everything in our lives is all about relationships! And I would like to take a moment to invite some reflection not only of the past year, but of the relationships of the past year. I wonder what it would be like to do the typical year reflection bit, but through the lens of your relationships. Here are some questions to consider:
- What was your most meaningful relationship this year? What about it had the most impact?
- What was your most trying relationship this year? What wound/pattern did it touch on?
- How have you shown up better in your relationships this year? In what ways do you wish to improve?
- Which relationships would you like to focus on more in the next year? How would you like to feel about this relationship by the end of next year?
As you say goodbye to 2024 you, I invite you to ring in your 2025 version with more wisdom, growth, and intention in your relationships. It is my experience that the relationships we have with ourselves, God, and others play some of the biggest roles in our overall happiness and satisfaction with our lives.
May this New Year bring a better version of you and more fulfilling relationships with those you care about. You’ve got this!
P.S. If you’re looking for help to have more connected and fulfilling relationships, we have some exciting things coming your way. We know 2025 is going to be great!
